Many of you know that I used to be extremely overweight. I lost 120 pounds (54.4 kilo). I was not an overweight child, but I gained a lot of weight when I first started college and eventually, I became obese. You can find photos and a longer story here:
I now teach Pilates and Yoga and the studio, Wellness Achieved.
At one point, I lost even more weight than the 120 pounds. A couple of years ago, I lost 17 more pounds. It started out as wanted to have “a little room for error” with my weight, so just in case I indulged in some naughty food I wouldn’t be on that slippery slope to gaining weight back. The thinner I became, the more obsessed I became with being just a little bit thinner. I was doing a lot of cardio and barely eating anything. People stop telling me how good I looked and started asking me if I was ill. Eventually, tons of cardio and barely eating led to feeling irritable, depressed and lethargic. I caught sight of a photo of me at that weight and realized I’d lost all of my muscle tone, my skin was pale and I did indeed look sick. Unfortunately, I started bingeing on food, mostly carbs and sugar-laden foods. I did gain weight but obviously it was not in a healthy way. Worse, I was feeling out of control; I do believe that that carbs and sugar can be a real addiction. Now I was gaining weight and had no muscle tone.
Fortunately, I discovered Weston A. Price, a dentist who traveled the world studying various cultures. Refined carbohydrates and sugar had taken over the Western diet and Dr. Price was used to seeing cavities and disease. In his travels, where new foods had not yet been introduced, Dr. Price found good health and very little incidents of cavities. I began eating a traditional diet of grass fed meats, raw yogurt, milk and cheese, and reducing the amount of carbohydrates I consume. If I do eat carbs, it is after they have been prepared in a traditional manner by soaking in order to reduce phytic acid.
I am now at a healthy and happy weight, as you can see from the photo on the studio’s website. However, I am still relatively new to this way of eating and I have a long way to go before I feel like I have healed my body from years of abuse. I would like to become stronger and am looking to add some weight training and HIIT to my workout routine. I am now eating and exercising for health. A fit body is the key to being able to enjoy life to the fullest!

I was certified previously though Wellness Achieved Studios for basic mat and reformer. I am proud to have recently received my basic mat certification through Power Pilates! Even if you are already certified, Power Pilates requires that you complete their basic mat before continuing on to their comprehensive certification (which I will be doing in the summer). I am so excited about finishing the Power Pilates program!
